SUSPECT:       62 YEAR-OLD FEMALE, TRANSIENT OF VICTORVILLE

SUMMARY:

On Monday, March 15th, 2010, at approximately 5:54 p.m., Deputy Derek Pedersen was dispatched to the main UPS center in Victorville.  The reporting party stated there were UPS envelopes with strange writing, no return address, but were addressed to "the police" and another to "the DA" with no further address on them.

Deputy Pedersen arrived to find that employees had already removed the shipping envelopes from the building.  The envelopes had writing all over them and the address slip, but nothing indicating who it came from.  Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Team was then requested to the location as a precautionary measure.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., security from Desert Valley Hospital notified police that an elderly female was trying to place similar packages into their UPS drop on the hospital grounds.  The female had already left the location on foot.  Deputy Pederson located the female on Bear Valley Rd. near Hesperia Rd..  She had with her more papers and envelopes with similar writing on them.  The female transient reportedly was just trying to send her thoughts to the police and DA's office.  UPS believes the other envelopes were also picked up from the hospital's UPS drop box earlier in the day.

Meanwhile Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Team found that the envelopes at the UPS center were not bombs, nor were they threatening in any way.  Mail handlers and law enforcement will take all precautions necessary to insure the safety of others when encountering any suspicious mail or packages.
