SUMMARY:
On Thursday, April 22nd, 2010, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Deputies of the Victorville Police Station and Victorville Code Enforcement set out to locate transients reported illegally living on private or city property. Deputies occasionally get calls from business owners that are startled by transients in the early mornings when they arrive to open up their stores for business that day. Others report that patrons are deterred away from their businesses when they're approached by transients. Citizens have reported seeing these same people involved in drug sales or drinking alcohol out in back of these business establishments. Recently we've even had transients getting verbally aggressive with citizens.
The team of law enforcement officers checked various areas throughout the City known to be transient hang outs as well as proactively patrolling for any new locations. Twelve arrests were made for the following charges, parole violations, outstanding warrants, actively loitering and camping within city limits
Deputies handed out cards that offer solutions to shelter issues for those they encountered that were not arrested today. Victorville Police Station plans to perform transient sweeps on a regular basis and encourages business owners and citizens to notify our office of these kinds of concerns as they are encountered.
