LOCATION:   VICTORVILLE

SUSPECT:       UNKNOWN

SUMMARY:

Victorville Police would like to make the public aware of a current phone scam that residents have been reporting over the past two weeks.  Currently the suspect(s) are targeting people with residential land lines.  The victim receives a call stating that they have been listed as an emergency contact for someone in custody and to please call back a number.  When the victim returns the call they get a voice message that relays instructions for them to dial *72 to reach the party they've called for.  By dialing *72, it forwards their line to that phone number and makes it possible for others to use that person's phone line for their own purposes.

Verizon advises that *73 will reverse the call forwarding if you happen to fall victim to their scam.
