SUMMARY:

Deputies of the Victorville Police Station have responded to calls on both May 25, 2010 and June 16, 2010 of elderly persons that were assaulted and robbed as they returned home from shopping in the afternoon hours.  On both occasions the victims had just returned home from grocery shopping.  The shopping locations were different, but the robberies were similar.

In both cases the victims returned home, parked their vehicle and as they exited their vehicle the suspect suddenly appeared demanding their purses and/or wallets.  One victim fought to hold onto her purse and was assaulted by the suspect.

Victorville Police Station would like to warn citizens to be vigilant about paying attention to your surroundings.  When possible, take extra precautions such as closing your garage door before exiting your vehicle.  If you believe someone is following you, drive to the police station or a safe location, but don't lead them to your home.  If you see suspicious persons or suspicious activities please call police and relay as much information as you're able to obtain without putting yourself in harms way, such as physical description, vehicle description and direction of travel.

These investigations are ongoing by the Detective Bureau of the Victorville Police Station.  This alert is to notify our citizens of a possible danger and hopefully increase awareness so that no one else will fall victim to these robberies.  Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Det. Shelton at Victorville Police Station at 760-241-2911 or remain anonymous by calling WE TIP at 800-78-CRIME.
